Greetings:
The book of Proverbs reads like a handbook of practical principles geared for effective living.
In many ways the book of Proverbs mirrors the rest of the Bible with the aim that we may know real wisdom and put it into practice.
Proverbs 3:19, 20 (NIV) says, “By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds were formed from a drop the dew.
In this verse Proverbs there are three terms we need to look at - knowledge, understanding and wisdom.
Knowledge is the gathering or research of information. Understanding is our ability to apply that information. Wisdom helps us to know when and in what way to apply that understanding.
The first seven verses lay the groundwork for our understanding of wisdom. Then we see in Proverbs 9:10 that ,"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."
That sums it up pretty clearly.
The Bible teaches that the goodness of God is incurred by fearing God. It promises that and protection is ever-present for those who fear Hi;m. There are promises that God's 'eye' looks upon the God-fearing individual. There are promises of divine provision for God-fearers. Fearing God prompts his mercy. There are also promises of physical health; help and protection; and fulfilled desires.
The book of Proverbs promises a place of refuge; departure from death; satisfaction; power over evil; riches; honor; and life.
Wisdom is a complicated term, but the answers are there if we seek them. Proverbs is a good place to start.
Be blessed.
